Wk. 1 Projections

Here's my projections for Week 1 (normally, this would be in my normal column. However, my recap of the weekend took up too much space):

FIVE UP
1. Cowboys QB Tony Romo vs. Browns: So, the Browns defense has improved. Well, their secondary seems to be pretty weak, with no depth and injury problems. Romo should come out firing Sunday afternoon in Cleveland, and he should put up some big numbers.
2. Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald vs. 49ers: The 49ers do have Nate Clements, but not much else in that secondary. Expect the Cards to throw a lot vs. San Fran, and Fitzgerald should be the recipient of most of those throws.
3. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger vs. Texans: Houston's defense has improved, but it's secondary is pretty weak. Its pass rush could have its way over Pittsburgh's revamped offensive line, but Big Ben should still be able to put up big numbers.
4. Giants RB Brandon Jacobs vs. Redskins: Jason Taylor may be out for tomorrow night's game, so that should be huge for Jacobs and New York's run defense. The Giants will be playing with something to prove after not having a lot of respect for winning last season's Super Bowl, and the respect will start with establishing Jacobs.
5. Jets RB Thomas Jones vs. Dolphins: Jones has one of the greatest quarterbacks ever lining up in front of him and he'll be playing a defense that lost it's best players to free agency (and wasn't very good with them). This will be a good game for all you guys who took a flier on Jones, so start him.

FIVE DOWN
1. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers vs. Vikings: The Vikings defense is notoriously stingy. This is Rodgers' first career start. Not a good equation for Green Bay. If you have him, keep him on your bench this week.
2. Buccaneers QB Jeff Garcia vs. Saints: The Saints may be a bit distracted because of the latest hurricane scare, but I don't think it will have an impact on this game. Their defense, plus a lack of Tampa Bay weapons, should make for a long day for this whining quarterback.
3. Bengals RB Chris Perry vs. Ravens: Baltimore will have a terrible season this year, but it still has a defense to respect, especially against the run. If you took a flier on Perry, don't dust him off this week.
4. Dolphins WR Ted Ginn vs. Jets: Ginn is the top target for Miami this season. But that won't mean much this Sunday against New York. With Chad Pennington still getting used to the Miami playbook, leave the pride of Glenville on your bench.
5. Saints RB Reggie Bush vs. Buccaneers: Bush is probable with a quad injury. Even still, quad injuries aren't very good for running backs. Bush may see his time decreased for Pierre Thomas and Deuce McAllister this week, plus the Bucs are a strong run defense. Start him at your own risk.
